Chapter Ten
“Hate to break it to ya folks, but it looks like it’s going to rain today.”
At least, Dylan hoped it would. He had a bet going on down at the pub that the wet summer they’d had so far would end and the bout of storms that had rolled through the past few weeks was over.
Fingers crossed.
“I know, I know. It’s not what you were wanting to hear. But I promise the rain won’t last long. For now, enjoy the sun while you can, but keep those umbrellas handy if you need to run out at all. I hear Sage has a new batch of ice cream ready for this afternoon. I don’t know about you, but I plan on buying a large tub of it. But, don’t worry, Moms and Dads, I’ve got your back for when the skies do open. First sign of rain and I’ll open the lines for our Kids Tell the Best Jokes hour.”
Dylan played the canned laughter before cueing up the next three songs. Things were quiet in the studio, and it’d been a while since he’d last done a lame joke hour.
They were probably one of his favorites, too. He should do them more often.
He opened the door to the studio, leaned against the wall, and waited for Lisa’s lame joke.
She always had one for him.
“Knock, knock,” she said.
“Who’s there?”
“Cargo.”
Dylan rolled his eyes. Carson had told him that joke the other day during the barbecue. Rylee teased him about knowing only baby jokes, and then the whole table started telling knock-knock jokes.
“Cargo, who?”
Lisa giggled. “Car go beep-beep.”
“Are you going to share that on the air today?” Dylan teased. He’d been trying to get Lisa to join him as co-host for a month now. She’d be great at it. She covered for him a few times when he had to run out for one reason or another, but she felt like she didn’t have the right voice for radio.
He disagreed.
“I hear Casey’s sticking around for a bit this time,” she said instead of answering him.
He nodded. “That’s what she says.”
“So when are you going to pop the question and get her to stay for good? You should make it a double wedding with your sister.” Lisa’s eyes sparkled at the idea.
Dylan had noticed the numerous wedding magazines on her desk this morning when he arrived at work. “Speaking of weddings…” He pointed to the magazines stacked beneath a mound of paperwork.
“Oh no, you don’t. You won’t be adding me to your weekly list of gossip material. My sister is getting married next summer, remember? Apparently, I’m now the wedding planner since she can’t take time from her busy schedule as a corporate lawyer in Chicago.” The frown on Lisa’s face grew the longer she talked. “Don’t worry, though. I promise not to talk your ear off about the latest fashions or table favors.”
“Well, if you need suggestions, Leah’s created some Pinterest boards, I think.” In fact, he knew since he’d had to sit and go through them almost every night.
